AdvDip(CPD) Non-Medical Independent and Supplementary Prescribing for Allied Health Professionals (HE6)
Allied Health Professionals play a vital role in healthcare. This course in independent and supplementary prescribing is designed to support your progress in physiotherapy / podiatry. It reflects the specific needs of Allied Health Professionals and employers and aims to educate students in prescribing practices that meet local or national guidelines.

Allied healthcare professionals make up one of the largest – and arguably most important – groups of professionals in the UK. Increasingly in high demand, allied healthcare professionals come from a range of medical and related backgrounds, bringing diverse skillsets to their roles.
Ideal for healthcare professionals with at least three years’ experience, this course will challenge you to apply planning, cooperation, critical analysis and decision making skills to your work, taking account of local or national guidelines.
You’ll explore a wide range of subjects, including clinical pharmacology, the psychology of prescribing and professional accountability, and have the opportunity to complete practice-based learning under the supervision of your mentor.
The programme is designed to meet the needs of allied healthcare professionals and their employers, aiming to equip you with the communication skills, diagnostic abilities and legal and professional understanding necessary for safe, appropriate and cost-effective prescribing.

This course is known colloquially as V300, although this term is purely an NMC term.

You must be registered with the appropriate professional body in the UK and practicing within the UK in order to be eligible to join the course. This means that we’re unable to consider most international applicants.
You must be currently registered as a Physiotherapist or Podiatrist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
You should also have a minimum of 3 years appropriate post registration experience, with the last 12 months specifically in the area of practice where there is an identified need for you to regularly use independent and supplementary prescribing.
You’ll become part of a tripartite learning agreement – the other parties are the Trust Prescribing Lead and a Designated Medical Supervisor.
You’ll need to arrange to have the support of a Designated Medical Supervisor in practice who’ll be able to provide guidance and supervision of your practice-based learning whilst you’re on the course. The mentor may be a doctor with whom you normally work and they must meet specific criteria as outlined on the Nomination Form. Your mentor will be supplied with full documentation in support of their role.
You’ll also need to show 80% achievement via the online numeracy test arranged by Prescribing Lead and that you possess basic computer literacy skills.
This course involves regulated activity so you must gain an Enhanced Disclosure certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) before starting your studies. Charges are payable to cover the cost of the DBS Enhanced Disclosure application and annual registration with the online Update Service. (Normally your sponsoring organisation will organise this.) If English isn't your first language you'll also need IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band (or equivalent). Find out more

Professional recognition
This course is validated and approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
On successful completion of the course, you’ll be eligible to register your qualification as an Independent/Supplementary Prescriber with the Health and Care Professions Council.

The fees for a student’s course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.
The University is currently awaiting Government guidelines as to EU fee charges for students commencing study in 2019/20.
UK undergraduate tuition fees are subject to UK government approval and are subject to the outcome of the Teaching Excellence Framework.
