If you’re a nurse or allied health professional involved in the training, support and assessment of learners in the workplace, our Multi-Professional Support of Learning and Assessment in Practice (MSLAP) course is designed with you in mind. Developed to reflect the needs of healthcare professionals and their employers, this part-time programme could help you achieve your potential by giving you the opportunity to build the learner support and management skills necessary to progress in your career.

Supporting and assisting learners in the workplace is both challenging and rewarding for practitioners who possess the necessary professional management skills – this course covers a series of topics that provide a good grounding for students looking to take on more responsibility in their careers. During the course you can expect to learn more about key areas, such as the creation of an environment for learning, establishing effective working relationships, facilitation and evaluation of learning and leadership. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore themes relating to evidence-based practice and context of practice for the chance to develop and apply your skills in workplace scenarios.

Entry requirements

You must have completed at least one year’s full-time work experience post-qualifying in an appropriate health or social care related profession (e.g. nurse, allied health professional).

You must also have appropriate current employment and your employer’s support to complete this qualification. This is because you’ll need access to a Practice setting that can provide both a mentor (who helps the University assess your progress on the course) and a learner (to practice your skills on) in the workplace.

If English isn't your first language you'll also need IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band (or equivalent). Find out more

In some cases, your employer may sponsor you to complete this course. If you're an NHS employee, please ask your line manager about funding for continuing professional development (CPD). If your application for sponsorship is approved by the NHS, please apply for this course through the CPD-Apply system (see the How to Apply section for details).

The fees for a student’s course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.

The University is currently awaiting Government guidelines as to EU fee charges for students commencing study in 2019/20.

UK undergraduate tuition fees are subject to UK government approval and are subject to the outcome of the Teaching Excellence Framework.
