Course details

Digital technology is revolutionising construction and professionals in the industry are racing to keep up with the changes. Innovations such as drones, laser scanners and 3D software packages are revealing skills shortages and creating new job opportunities across a wide spectrum of the industry. The University of Bolton’s ground-breaking BSc (Hons) Intelligent Construction Engineering and Surveying degree offers you the knowledge and skills to take advantage of these new opportunities, while ensuring you possess a solid grounding in the traditional technologies, principles and methods that underpin modern construction.

Our dedicated and experienced staff will guide you to develop strong understanding and practical know-how in essential areas of construction and surveying. We’ll cover areas such as construction technology, including site investigations, materials, specifications and plans, along with areas such as contract procedures and procurement, measurement, legal and regulatory frameworks, construction project management, project finance, and sustainable construction, so that you can gain in-depth knowledge of the core elements essential for a career in the industry. We’ll also focus on integrating digital technologies such as building information modelling (BIM) into the planning, building and maintenance of structures, exploring how these enable smarter working, increase productivity and enhance outcomes for clients.

  • Developed in consultation with our Industry Advisory Board (IAB), this programme is designed to respond directly to the current and predicted future needs of the industry. Our IAB brings together a diverse range of professionals and organisations from a wide variety of construction and surveying related specialisms.

Any subjects are acceptable at Level 3.

Applicants should also have five GCSEs at grade C or above or grade 4 to 9 (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics.

If you have non-traditional entry qualifications and relevant experience, or a suitable portfolio of work that we consider a reasonable substitute for the qualifications we typically accept for this course, then we will be happy to consider your application.

You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.

The fees for a student’s course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.

The University is currently awaiting Government guidelines as to EU fee charges for students commencing study in 2019/20.

UK undergraduate tuition fees are subject to UK government approval and are subject to the outcome of the Teaching Excellence Framework.
