About the course

Polymaths is taught on two evenings each week. The group sizes are not large, averaging about 30 students, and teaching is relatively informal. Staff are very approachable and offer excellent support and attention.

The Polymaths course has been taught at Bolton for more than 30 years and many of the students who have passed the course have gone on to gain good honours degrees at Bolton and elsewhere.

What you will learn

Polymaths will give you a good grounding in mathematics or will provide you with excellent preparation for study of the subject at degree level.

What you will study

The core of your studies will be pure mathematics. In addition, you will carry out some studies using the computer algebra system Maple.

The topics include Algebraic Techniques and Number Systems, Mathematical Functions (e.g. quadratics and trigonometric functions), Newton’s Theory of Calculus, Set Theory and Logic.
